The Separation of Self

The meaning of the painting was derived from Chapter 4 of a book titled “The Art of Sucker Duckin’ – How to End Toxic Relationships, Set Boundaries, and Reach God’s Purpose

Chapter 4, entitled “The Psychology of Purpose,” contains an excerpt that explores the Fear of Identity. The following passage is taken from the section discussing this topic:

Doubt arises from a lack of identity. Many individuals attempt to fill this void with material possessions, titles, or superficial facades. However, the true issue lies in our fear of unlocking the immense power inherent within our core identity. Throughout our lives, we often live vicariously through an identity that we believe is socially acceptable.

Take a moment to reflect and ask yourself the following questions:

Who are you when stripped of your material possessions? Imagine removing your wealth and social status. Without your job, car, friends, and fancy clothes, who are you at your essence?

The journey of self-discovery can be both rewarding and challenging. Fear is synonymous with pain, and pain leads to suffering. This suffering breeds depression, which in turn creates a longing for happiness. Consequently, individuals resort to constructing a necessary illusion.

Necessary Illusion:

This act transports individuals from their previous state of isolation (reality) into a temporary realm of false liberation.

The Separation of Self:

As people evade their true selves by assuming false identities, they further distance themselves from their authentic beings. The space between the false self and the true self becomes a pseudo home—a place of middle ground. Suppressing one’s true self versus embracing it causes many to yearn for acceptance as the person they truly are, having spent their entire lives evading that reality.

Living comfortably with a counterfeit identity prevents individuals from gaining genuine self-awareness.
