Through our immersive workshops and events, we strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where individuals can freely express themselves and connect with others in meaningful ways. Whether it’s through painting, sculpting, or other artistic mediums, we believe that the act of creation is a powerful tool for promoting self-awareness, personal growth, and emotional well-being.

In addition to our workshops, we also offer a range of services designed to help individuals and organizations incorporate art into their daily lives. Our art leasing program, for example, allows businesses and individuals to showcase curated collections of art in their spaces, promoting a culture of creativity and inspiration. We also offer commissioned art pieces, which are tailored to the unique needs and preferences of our clients, and art merchandise, which allows individuals to bring a piece of Oya Arts with them wherever they go.

ABOUT ME

Hi, name is  Karen Caldwell, a creative Wellness Coach from North West London. My passion for art led me to combine it with my background in sociology, resulting in a one-of-a-kind art-based learning experience that you won’t find anywhere else.

With over 20 years of experience, I’ve been crafting transformational business strategies that use artistic-based learning techniques to enhance employee engagement and promote wellness. My expertise lies in creating artistic team-building activities, including paint and prosecco nights, and painting jigsaw workshops.

What sets me apart is my ability to bring together the worlds of art and sociology, creating a unique learning experience that is both engaging and transformative. With my help, your organization can tap into the power of creativity to drive business success like never before.

So, if you’re looking for a fresh perspective and a unique approach to organizational sociology, look no further. Contact me today and let’s unlock your team’s full potential through the power of art!

Having never painted before I was nervous about attending a class, but it was absolutely fantastic and I will definitely return! Karen made me feel very welcome and gave me lots of confidence and expert advice in such a relaxed, creative atmosphere. I am so pleased with my finished painting and thoroughly enjoyed the session.

My and my daughter have done 2 sessions now and have throughly enjoyed them. The time goes so quick and Karen is a great teacher. We had never painted before and our paintings have turned out great, we are so pleased with. I didn’t use canvas to paint on as I thought it wouldn’t be very good so just used a4 paper. I’m going to use a canvas next time. Looking forward to the next one.

I've always been interested in painting but I assumed it was something difficult. Oya Arts has showed me that anyone can learn to paint. She is patient, thorough and very encouraging. At first I honestly wanted to give up because everyone in the class seemed to be more advanced, but she pushed and encouraged me to keep painting. Thanks to her I have an art piece that I can be proud of and a new hobby!

My Work

My work explores the beauty and complexity of the African Diaspora through a metamodern lens. My primary medium is acrylic on canvas and I describe my painting style as “ Abstract Afrocentrism I use the word “ abstract” as a figurative derivative of the verb’s meanings “to remove” or “to separate.

Through the use of bold colors and negative space, I centre the experiences of Africa and the African diaspora within our own historical, cultural, and sociological contexts. The goal of my work is to dispel stereotypical ideas about blackness as a form of identity, culture, an overly appropriated style choice, and a polarized lifestyle depiction.

Black art has always existed. It just hasn't been looked for in the right places. You don't paint what you see, you paint what you feel.
